All Female Tattoo Convention??? Ohhhhhh whats the world coming to!

Well I have just got back from the 1st UK female tattoo convention that was held in the Assembly, Leamington Spa. I have to say it was my favourite show of the year. Now there has been a load of grumbles about the concept behind this show. I have heard  ‘All female grrr if it was an all male one there would be uproar’  and all sorts of other little quips about it putting female tattooing back 20 years etc.

I have to say I couldn’t disagree more. When Dave the organiser approached me to do the show, I thought it was a great idea and my initial thoughts about it hasn’t changed. Tattooing has evolved so much over the years and there is now a brilliant standard across the board male and female and it was a great opportunity to showcase the amount of top class female artists in one place. So whats wrong with celebrating the fact the UK can now put on a 40 artist show and they are all female. Surely this can only educate the public more to the fact that tattooing is open to all and its very much not just for sailors and whores these days.

To top it all off, Dave and the gang put on a relaxed, entertaining and enjoyable show. I would like to thank them for their warm welcome and I hear it is going to be on again next year. So drop any preconceptions you might have about this show and go and actually check it out next year, you will be pleasantly suprised.

And so to the tattooing I did. I finally got to finish off my floral sleeve I have been working on with Kelly over the last couple of conventions. I am glad to say its now all finished so below is a photo.

How custom tattoos work

So I did a tattoo for one of my lovely regulars Sarah Jane this week. I really enjoyed doing it and I thought it was a great way to show how a custom design is put together.

So Sarah asked me to design a piece for her rat rupert and sent me a load of photos over. Obviously this photo jumped out as the one I had to use as reference.

Yes he really does have a party hat on 🙂

So after a few rough drafts I come to the design I thought worked and decided to paint this one up. Now not all designs I draw for tattoos get to this stage as most will be my final line drawings. However, I took a fancy to this piece and decided to paint it up as I had a bit of time spare.

Then it was just a case of actually tattooing it, which is always the best bit.

So thats how you go about getting a custom piece, its all about getting the correct reference, working with the customer and getting a one off piece.  If you would like to get a custom piece you need to contact the studio, then after we have discussed your design, collected your reference and taken a deposit and booked you in. We can get started on getting you a custom tattoo.

The gentlemen are coming by

So today was a good day and I was allowed to release my inner buffy geek again. Today’s instalment was inspired from the Hush episode. It is based on the nursery rhyme for the Gentleman coming out of the gentlemans box that steals everyones’ voice.

And as I logged on to update this I discovered I have been mentioned in another geek blog for my last buffy tattoo. Check this out!

While tattooing this we did discuss a possible Faith tattoo so watch this space!
